Memory is the process of acquiring, retaining, and retrieving information. Encoding, storage, and retrieval are the three areas of memory.
The process of getting information into the memory is known as encoding. It is impossible to remember information or stimuli if they are never encoded. Encoding necessitates paying attention to information and connecting it to previously acquired knowledge in order to make new information meaningful and hence simpler to recall.
Information is stored when it is kept for a long period of time. We are thought to be able to store information in three different ways: sensory memory, short-term memory, and long-term memory. These locations change with the passage of time.
The process of getting information from memory is known as retrieval. You can use your memories to answer questions, do tasks, make decisions, and communicate with others if you have the ability to access and recall information from memory.
