Single Mother,Masego,of 35, staying in an informal setting near tzaneen(husband died). She was forced to work to provide for three kids.Raesibe and Leseta, older children use public transport to and from school which increases financial burden.Moagabo is in childcare facility with neighbourhood granny, Koko.Masego failed to make payment to Koko which put a strain on their relationship.Masego cant meet her childrens needs and affects her emotional state and behaviour towards her kids.(she reacts aggresively). In the intervention process:Masego said his death robbed her of her well lived life. She wonders why he didnt tel her hes leaving. She's misserable without him.She showed doubts about the social worker’s ability to help.Use proposition 8 of the person-centred approach to describe the importance of the “self” in this case. Discuss this proposition, highlighting what it stands for and its importance in trying to understand Masego’s conscious and unconscious experiences.
By the use proposition 8 Masego should realize the importance of self by accepting the death of her husband and planning on how to raise her three children and cater for their needs. This can be achieved by her finding a job and also getting married to another man because proposition 8 only bans marriage between people of the same gender and therefore she still has the chance to get married to another.
Proposition 8 is a California ballot proposition and a state constitutional amendment intended to ban same-sex marriage, it was passed in the November 2008 California state elections and was later overturned in court. The importance of proposition 8 in trying to understand Masego’s conscious and unconscious experiences is that proposition 8 gives her chance of starting life afresh by marrying someone else of the opposite gender even after the death of her husband. By marrying someone else, Masego will be able to forget about the memories, feelings and thoughts she has about her late husband, view life differently and stop reacting aggressively to her children since now she can meet their needs.
