A person's significant other, family members and close friends can all impact cultural identity. When people start to gain a sense of self through those relationships, they acquire different values and beliefs. Some people feel comfortable discussing their feelings with others, but some do not. Culture helps define how individuals see themselves and how they relate to others. A family's cultural values shape the development of its child's self-concept: Culture shapes how we each see ourselves and others.
