Differentiate between generalization and discrimination in classical conditioning. Discuss how Classical Conditioning can be used in Advertising? Provide one specific example
When a stimulus similar to an already conditioned stimulus generates the same reaction as the initial stimulus, this is known as stimulus generalization. When the organism learns to distinguish between the CS and other comparable stimuli, this is known as stimulus discrimination.
Music-based advertising makes use of classical conditioning. Consumers are more likely to feel joyful when they hear music that is upbeat and repeated. Consumers may therefore connect the product with emotions of enjoyment, making them more inclined to purchase it. For example, many beer ads prominently feature attractive young women wearing bikinis.
