The accessory orga of the digestive system which produce enzymes ,homones, and bicarbonate
1 pancreas
2 Gall bladder
3 liver
4 Appendix
Pancreas; The pancreas produces the enzyme- and bicarbonate-rich pancreatic juice and delivers it to the small intestine through ducts. Pancreatic juice buffers the acidic gastric juice in chyme inactivates pepsin from the stomach and enables the optimal functioning of digestive enzymes in the small intestine. the pancreas secretes just enough bicarbonate to counterbalance the amount of HCl produced in the stomach. Hydrogen ions enter the blood when bicarbonate is secreted by the pancreas. Thus, the acidic blood draining from the pancreas neutralizes the alkaline blood draining from the stomach, maintaining the pH of the venous blood that flows to the liver. It has an endocrine (hormone-producing) portion that contains alpha and beta cells that secrete the hormones glucagon and insulin.
Gall bladder; The gallbladder stores and concentrates bile, releasing it when it is needed by the small intestine.
Liver; The liver produces bile and delivers it to the common hepatic duct. Bile contains bile salts and phospholipids, which emulsify large lipid globules into tiny lipid droplets, a necessary step in lipid digestion and absorption.
Appendix; the function of the appendix is to expose white blood cells to the wide variety of antigens, or foreign substances, present in the gastrointestinal tract. Thus, the appendix helps to suppress potentially destructive humoral antibody responses while promoting local immunity. The appendix--like the tiny structures called Peyer's patches in other areas of the gastrointestinal tract--takes up antigens from the contents of the intestines and reacts to these contents.
Therefore, the accessory organ of the digestive system which produces enzymes, hormones, and bicarbonates is the pancreas. It has the alpha and beta cells that secrete the hormone glucagon and insulin.
It also has the acinar cells that are responsible for the production of pancreatic juice which comprises of bicarbonate and digestive enzymes.
