Do you agree with the points given by the speaker Larry Smith In Why you will fail to have a great career? Give at least two (2) statements you support and another two (2) that you dislike. Defend your answer.
AGREE
i) I agree when Smith explains that it is important for one to love the job they are doing.
This is because if you choose to do work that you think you “should” do—and you
are competing with people who love what they do—you, you will fail.
This is corroborated by John Ruskin who said: "when love and skill work together,
expect a masterpiece"
ii) I agree when he said that even if we work hard, there is no guarantee that we will have a great career.
Example is those farmers. They are working hard right? Planting even if it's sunny or rainy.
But, what's happening on them? Instead of being successful, they just get bankrupt.
DISAGREE
i)I disagree with Larry smith when he states that, one must pursue your passion and dreams in order
to find a great career. This is because my passion can be something which cannot make me money daily,
like may be golf or chess playing. So if I pursue my passion as my career and the income I get is doesn't
satisfy my needs I just better leave it a get a job that can make me good money.
ii)I'll also make reference to his last statement about luck. Smith says he doesn't wish people luck.
I don't agree that life is completely without positive co-incidence. Not that it is wise to depend entirely on it.
As the saying goes "Luck favors the prepared. "one works hard enough, the chances tend to
tilt in their favor.
