  1. In programmed I/O Data transfer is initiated by instructions that are already stored in a computer while in interrupt-driven data transfer is initiated through interrupt commands issued to CPU.
  2. In programmed I/O there is inefficient use of resources (CPU) i.e. the CPU is kept at bay unnecessarily even when it's not transferring data it just stays there monitoring incase data needs to be transferred while in interrupt-driven CPU is used optimumly since it employs an interrupt facility only when there's data available that needs to transferred that an interrupt signal is sent to the CPU to handle that request and once the CPU is done it returns to execute it previous tasks.
