A brief overview of the Melians dialogue

Various theoretical models for analysing and assessing policy‐making stakeholders, i.e., who is involved, why, when and how, exist. Considering your chosen policy,
choose the theoretical model which you believe suits your policy the best and motivate your answer by providing relevant examples.

Bardach developed an eightfold path to policy development. Apply these eight steps to your chosen policy and briefly discuss each step. You may use your own (40) interpretation of the policy and it is required of you to think creatively when answering this question. Note: The mark allocation for this question is high, hence the student should really apply their mind when answering this question.

Choose any policy in South Africa of your choice and carefully analyse it. The policy may be a recently instituted policy, a policy that is under review currently or a new proposed policy. It is expected of you to analyse this policy by carefully compiling an assignment about the chosen policy and answering Q.1.1—Q.1.5. Please note: It is important to relate all the questions to the public policy that you have chosen. Do not merely answer the questions to what has been supplied in your textbook, but rather use your textbook to guide you. Q.1.1 Distinguish between the various definitions of policy and public policy and provide your own definition of the concept “policy”.
