Create a short essay presenting and discussing the facts and their critical analysis on the implication power in the daily life of one’s individual to our society.
Power is a fundamental part of human relations in daily lives. Low power negatively affected mood and cognition. Contrary to negative stereotypes of powerholders, a higher power was associated with greater feelings of responsibility. High power is not restricted to a limited few: almost half of the sample reported experiencing high-power positions. Positional power and subjective feelings of power are strongly related but had unique relations with several individual difference measures and independent effects on participants’ effect, cognition, and interpersonal relations. Subjective feelings of power resulted more from within-participant situational fluctuation, such as the social roles participants held at different times, than from stable differences between people. The possession of power transforms individuals psychologically, shapes their behavior, and produces an enduring effect on individual status and influence with teammates. Power casts a long shadow on the mental state of either powerful or powerless actors.
