Compare the advantages of the first past the post voting system to the advantages of the proportional representation voting system.

The electoral system of Canada, which is sometimes referred to as "first past the post," is more appropriately known as a Single Member Plurality system. The candidate who receives the most votes in a riding wins a seat in the House of Commons and becomes the Member of Parliament for that riding.
