Discuss the system of proportional representation and what it means for the South
African electoral system
The South African Electoral process adopts a system referred to as Proportional representation that aims at creating a representative governance body that reflects overall interest and distribution of support to the public for each political party.
The majority rule and plurality systems usually represent the majority's interests in terms of number that do not necessarily represent the needs of the majority that can be raised by few or minority political parties. South African government values the electoral system of proportional representation because it helps in decision-making, allowing the electoral system to achieve a consensus opinion and not a census opinion.
