2. A submarine is submerged at a depth of 200m and then levels off. How it is achieved that inside the submarine atmospheric pressure is maintained? What are the pressure and total force applied to a hatch 1m wide and 1.5m long? (The density of seawater is 1.03x10^3).

To keep the submarine level at any set depth, the submarine maintains a balance of air and water in the trim tanks so that its overall density is equal to the surrounding water (neutral buoyancy). The pressure is P=ρgh=(1030)(9.8)(200)=2.0∙〖10〗^6 Pa. The total force applied to a hatch 1m wide and 1.5m long is F=PA=(2.0∙〖10〗^6 )(1)(1.5)=3.0∙〖10〗^6 N.
