Spin-orbit interaction is the interaction between a moving particle and its own magnetic moment. The magnetic moment is caused by the spin of the particle.

A moving charged particle (such as an electron orbiting a hydrogen nucleus) acquires orbital momentum and the corresponding magnetic moment. The interaction between the orbital magnetic moment and the magnetic moment caused by the spin is called spin-orbit interaction.
