An object travelling in a curved path is called projectile. The motion is called curvilinear motion. The Path it travels is called trajectory. When an object is thrown and follows this motion, the vertical component of it's acceleration is equal to acceleration due to gravity (9.8 m/s2) while the horizontal component of its acceleration is equal to zero. This is due to the fact that the horizontal component of its velocity is always constant while its vertical component is changing. The vertical component of velocity decreases when it goes upward. It becomes zero when it reaches the peak. Upon returning to the ground, the velocity increases and directed downward.
