The law of conservation of momentum gives


m1v1+m2v2=(m1+m2)um_1v_1+m_2v_2=(m_1+m_2)uu=m1v1m1+m2=262+0.5=4.8  m/su=\frac{m_1v_1}{m_1+m_2}=\frac{2*6}{2+0.5}=4.8\;\rm m/s
