When the tablet was powdered, the partical size gets smaller and interacting surface area increases.

For example, the burning rate of a large piece of coal is smaller than the burning rate of powdered coal. While the coal is in a large piece, only the outer part of the coal interacts with the flame. However, if the same piece of coal is powdered, the parts that do not interact at the beginning also interact with the flame.

It is also useful to know that if the rate is r = kX , powdering the solid also increases the k value and the reaction rate increases.
