Question #126020

Why do we need to measure extremely small intervals of time?

Expert's answer

This may be necessary in some experiments and laboratory works because they deal with phenomena that last for a very short time and the property measured for a very long time will not give any useful information.

For example, imagine that we measure the time of contact between a ball thrown from some height and a surface. The interaction between the ball and surface is quick, and long time measurement will not work in this situation.
