A body Q of mass 5 kg moving with a velocity of 30 ms-1 is suddenly hit by another body R. If the velocity of Q is changed to 50 ms-1, in the same direction, calculate the impulse it receives.

By definition, the impulse is the mass times velocity of the body:


"p = mv"

Thus, when the body of mass "m = 5kg" obtain the velocity "\\Delta v = 20m\/s" it means the body recieves the impulse:


"\\Delta p = m\\Delta v = 5kg\\cdot 20m\/s = 100 kg\\cdot m\/s"

Answer. 100 kg*m/s
