Question #86962

What would happen to the intensity of light as the angle between the polarizer and the analyzer increases?

Expert's answer

Intensity after the analyzer is given by the Malus's law:

I=I0cos2θI=I_0cos^2\theta

where θ - angle between analyzer and polarizer.

We see, that intensity is maximal at θ=0, and it decreases when the angle increases.
