As per the question,

In the Laurent's Polariser there are two nicols P and A. Which is capable of rotation, about the common axis and mounted in the brass tube which is placed at some distance. There is a glass tube T which have large diameter is filled with the solution of an optically active substance.

When the light falls on the polarizer P, which converts unpolarised light into plane polarized light.
