A container having a volume of 0.2 m3 contains Nitrogen at 100 kPa and 150C. If 0.2 kg of Nitrogen is pumped into this container, calculate the final pressure after the gas has returned to its initial temperature.
Solution;
Given;
"V_1=V_2=0.2m^3"
"P_1=100kPa"
"T_1=T_2=15\u00b0c=288K"
From Ideal gas laws;
"PV=mRT"
Where R for nitrogen is "296.8 J\/kgK"
The initial mass is;
"m=\\frac{PV}{RT}=\\frac{100\u00d70.2}{0.296\u00d7288}=0.2346kg"
After nitrogen addition;
"m_2=0.2+0.2346=0.4346kg"
There pressure is calculated as;
"P=\\frac{mRT}{V}=\\frac{0.4346\u00d7296.8\u00d7288}{0.2}=185.748kPa"
