Question #155223

How do thermal energy, temperature and heat differ

Expert's answer

Heat is the thermal energy that flows from a substance of higher temperature to a substance of lower temperature. Thermal energy is the total energy (kinetic as well as potential) of the submicroscopic particles that make up a substance. Temperature is the average kinetic energy of moving particles in a substance.

Matter contains thermal energy not contain heat. Heat is thermal energy in transit.
