Question #102717
A metal bowl with a weight of 1.65 N is placed in a larger kitchen container filled with coconut oil. How much coconut oil must the bowl displace in order to float? For reference, the mass density of coconut oil is about 903 g/liter and its weight density is about 8.85 N/liter

Archimedes force FA is numerically equal to gravity mg

FA=mg=ρVg(1)F_A=mg=\rho Vg (1)

Where mg is a weight, ρ\rho is the the mass density of coconut oil, V is the volume

Using (1) we get

V=mgρg(2)V=\frac{mg}{\rho g} (2)

V=0.19 L

Answer

0.19 L
