There are two forces acting on the ball:

1)The force of gravity , which is directed downward.

2)The propelling force, which points upward.


The resultant force is a vector sum of two forces.

In our case:


"F=F_{prop}-F_{grav}=200-40=160N"

So, the resultant force is 160N, directed upwards.
