Question #283870

I got this question on my hw and i chose 4 and it was wrong I would like if someone could explain why its wrong

A hockey stick hits a puck on the ice. Identify an action-reaction pair in this situation

1 The stick exerts a force on the puck; the puck exerts a force on the stick.

2 The puck exerts a force on the stick; the stick exerts a force on the ice.

3 The stick exerts a force on the ice; the ice exerts a force on the puck.

Action-reaction forces are forces that act between two interacting bodies, and are of equal magnitude and opposite direction as established by Newton's Third Law.

Assuming that a Body A and a Body B interact, the following pair of forces is produced.

The force exerted by A on B which can be identified as.

"\\vec{F}_{AB}"

The force exerted by B on A which can be identified as.

"\\vec{F}_{BA}"

Newton's third law states that

"\\vec{F}_{AB}=-\\vec{F}_{BA}"

Therefore the correct choice would be in this case.

The stick exerts a force on the puck; the puck exerts a force on the stick.
