In Diamagnetic materials molecules or atoms have zero magnetic moment in absence of an external magnetic field. With the application of magnetic field a net dipole moment is induced in the molecules opposing the field.

So, diamagnetic materials reduce the density of lines of force through them.

so for perfect diamagnetic materials  susceptibility equals to (-1).
