Static electricity is the occurrence of electrical charge on the surface of dielectrics. Most often this occurs due to the friction of two dielectric surfaces against each other. Atoms and molecules of one substance detach electrons from another substance, so that charges of a different sign appear on the rubbing surfaces.
As everyday examples of the occurrence of static electricity, one can cite the mutual electrification of hair and a plastic comb or the accumulation of static electricity on a person’s body while wearing woolen clothes.
