Answer to Question #267243 in Electric Circuits for adit

Question #267243

The equivalent resistance of two resistors R1 and R2 is given by Req = R1 + R2 and Req =R1R2/R1+R2

when they are connected in series and parallel respectively. If R1 = 22.0 Ω ±

5% and R2 = 47.0 ± 5% , find the maximum error in the calculation of their equivalent

resistance when they are connected in series and parallel.

serial connection

"\\delta_{ser}= max(\\delta_1,\\delta_2)"

where "\\delta_{ser}" - caclulation error of serial connection, "\\delta_1" and "\\delta_2" are calculation errors of R1 and R2 respectively.

"\\delta_{ser}= max(5 \\%,5 \\%)"

"\\delta_{ser}= 5 \\%"

parallel connection

"\\delta_{par}=\\delta_{1}+\\delta_{2} + max(\\delta_{1},\\delta_{2})=5\\%+5\\%+max(5\\%,5\\%)=15\\%"
