Answer to Question #218413 in Classical Mechanics for Buba

Question #218413
A U-Tube manometer has Mercury of relative density of 13.6 as it manometric liquid. kerosene of relative density of 0.6 was poured into one of the arms and so a drop off 2.0cm results in that arm. Also water with a relative density of 1 g/cm3 was poured into the other arm and so the two arm become the same again. calculate the height of water column.

1)

ρkhk=ρmhm,\rho_kh_k=\rho_mh_m,

hm=hkΔh,h_m=h_k-\Delta h,

hk=ρmΔhρmρk=2.092 cm,h_k=\frac{\rho_m\Delta h}{\rho_m-\rho_k}=2.092~cm,

2)

ρkhk=ρmhm+ρwhw,\rho_kh_k=\rho_mh_m'+\rho_wh_w,

hm+hw=hk,h_m'+h_w=h_k,

hw=hkρwρkρmρw=0.66 mm.h_w=h_k\frac{\rho_w-\rho_k}{\rho_m-\rho_w}=0.66~mm.
