Solution

According to theory in above question

We can write

mgh=kx22mgh=\frac{kx^2}{2}

Where x is compression in spring.

x=2mghkx=\sqrt{\frac{2mgh}{k}}

Putting the value of m, g, h, k

x=2×50×10×104×104x=\sqrt{\frac{2\times50\times10\times10}{4\times10^4}}

x=0.5mx=0.5m

Therefore compression in spring is 0.5m
