Applying the conservation of momentum,

(m+M)u=M×8+m×V\Rightarrow (m+M)u=-M\times 8+m\times V

V=(m+M)um+M×8m\Rightarrow V=\dfrac{(m+M)u}{m}+\dfrac{M\times 8}{m}

V=55×4+8×55=52m/sec\Rightarrow V=\dfrac{55\times 4+8\times 5}{5}=52 m/sec
