Answer to Question #87536 in Atomic and Nuclear Physics for Shivam Nishad

Question #87536

Mass defect:

"\u0394m=Zm_p+(A-Z)m_n-m(Fe) (1)"

where Z=26, A=56

Using (1) we got: Δm=0.5285 u

Binding energy W

1 u – 931.5 MeV

0.5285 u – W

W=492.3 MeV

The binding energy per nucleon:

"w=\\frac {W}{A} (2)"

Using (2) we got:

w=8.79 MeV/nucleon

Answer:

Binding energy: 492.3 MeV

binding energy per nucleon: 8.79 MeV/nucleon
