How Misconceptions, Prejudices, and Biases about Teaching Could Be Addressed
Society should understand that teachers are also human beings can be influenced by psychological biases. The understanding will prevent the assumptions and misconceptions associated with the teaching. Society should not assume that others who behave in a certain way do so because of their character rather than in response to environmental circumstances. In-group bias leads us to assign positive characteristics and motivations to people who are similar to us.
Teachers can be shocked to discover that students do not comprehend basic class concepts, despite their best efforts. Some of the best students respond correctly as well, but only memorized words are correctly used. These students report when asked more closely, that they cannot completely understand the underlying concepts. To solve numerical problems, students will often use algorithms without completely knowing the underlying mathematical theory. The diverse ways students think should be appreciated by society and the teachers.
