A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment. Such fact-supported theories are not "guesses" but reliable accounts of the real world.

Some common theories that are well known, and seen by most people as fact include; Evolution, Plate Tectonics, and Gravity. All three of these have enough evidence to be scientifically sound, but we have not yet given 100% proof to turn them from scientific theory into scientific law.
