Freedom is absolutely essential to all our true values. There are many different facets and levels of freedom. Some are quite radical and challenge authority enough to cause conflicts. There have to be limitations on one person’s freedom if it would infringe on another person’s but that infringement would not be real freedom, merely domination.

The history of laws is fraught with strange fears about what the consequences would be if certain freedoms were permitted. Where do those fears come from? That’s what we need to ponder.
