Freedom is absolutely essential to all our true values. There are many different facets and levels of freedom. Some are quite radical and challenge authority enough to cause conflicts. There have to be limitations on one person’s freedom if it would infringe on another person’s but that infringement would not be real freedom, merely domination. In the American Civil War, one side thought it was fighting for the freedom to own a slave. The history of laws is fraught with strange fears about what the consequences would be if certain freedoms were permitted. All of our genuine ideals require freedom to exist. There are several aspects and levels of liberty. Some are incredibly radical, questioning authority to the point of causing confrontation.
