Indigenous African Education System
Indigenous Education system is a type of system that focuses on the indigenous knowledge, models, methods, and content within formal or non-formal education system. The African education system was non-formal and was passed to generations. Children were taught during their free time. The girls were taught separately from boys. Girls were taught the responsibilities of ladies, the position of the woman in society, and the culture of the society. Boys, on the other hand, were taught the responsibilities of men, the position of men in society and culture. For example, the LUO community( the only RIVER-LAKE NILOTES in Kenya) taught the boys how to do fishing and the importance of the norms of society. This was passed from one generation to the next. Therefore, the Indigenous African Knowledge systems in education are characterized by their culture and geographical setting.
