2: Follow the link mentioned here, you are advised to select village data for any one state/

UT of your choice. Once you download data this way then focus on the following columns

and write their measurement types along with one justification.

Column no Variable name

24 Total Geographical Area (in Hectares)

25 Total Households

114 Private Non Formal Training Centre (Status A(1)/NA(2))

220 Hand Pump (Status A(1)/NA(2))

242 Open Pucca Drainage Uncovered (Status A(1)/NA(2))

253 Post Office (Status A(1)/NA(2))

briefly discuss five tips as proposed by Guido(2018) tha will help in management of behaviour

Research Methods

Four kinds of fertilisers F1, F2, F3 and F4 were used to study the yield of soya beans. The soil is divided into 3 types, sandy soil, loam soil and clay soil each containing 4 homogeneous plots. The yields in kg per plot against the corresponding treatments are given in the table below:

Sandy soil Loam soil Clay soil

F1 42.7 50.0 51.9

F2 39.3 38.0 46.3

F3 48.5 50.9 53.5

F4 32.8 40.2 51.1

 (i) Give the mathematical model for the design in (b) above defining all terms in the context of the study [4]

(ii) Using parametric Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), test the following hypotheses at α = 0.05 significance level:

H0 : F 1 = F 2 = F 3 = F 4 and

H0 : μSandsoil = μLoamsoil = μClaysoil [5;5]

(iii) Identify the appropriate design for the experiment

(iv) State the null hypothesis for the treatment (fertilizer)

(v) State the alternative hypothesis for the soil type

(vi) Calculate the correction factor to 1 decimal place [2]

Question 1

A horticulturist used a CRD to investigate the phosphorus content of tree leaves from 3 different varieties (1, 2, and 3) of apple trees. Random samples of 5 leaves of each variety were analysed for phosphorus content. An ANOVA of the data was performed. The incomplete ANOVA table is given below:

Source of variation DF SS MS F

Variety … (a) 0.276 … (d) … (f)

Error … (b) …(c) … (e)

Total 14 0.374

(i) Copy and complete the ANOVA table (3)

(ii) Are the mean phosphorus levels for the three varieties equal? Use the 0.05 level of significance (5)

(iii) Is there any need to perform pair-wise comparison in this hypothesis testing procedure? Explain your answer (3)

(iv) Identify any 5 methods for performing pairwise comparisons when the null hypothesis is rejected during an ANOVA (5)

Question 1

(a) What do you understand by the phrase Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) in biological assays? (2)

(b) Three Animal Science students studied the effects of adding urea to bush on the milk production of cows. There are Holstein, Afrikaner and Nguni cows of the same parity and lactation phase for experimentation. There are three feed types (treatments) in total. Billy selected 1 Holstein, 1 Afrikaner and 1 Nguni cow and allocated a different treatment to each cow. Matthew selected 2 Nguni cows for Feed A, 2 Holstein cows for Feed B and 2 Afrikaner cow for Feed C. Beata selected 3 Nguni, 3 Afrikaner and 3 Holstein cows so that each Feed was allocated to 3 cows of different breeds.

i) Identify the experimental principle that Billy violated. What is its importance in designing experiments and analysis of data?

ii) What mistake did Matthew make in his design? What was compromised by making such a mistake?

iii) Write a comment on Beata’s experimental design?

Basic Knife Skills

How to hold a knife - Thumb and pointer finger on blade.  If there were a ____________ they’d touch.

Don’t  __________ knife too ______________

Claw your hands   - use knuckles as your guide

Use a smooth - cutting motion

For smaller pieces of carrot - use ______________ of blade.  Smaller rocking _______________

If you hold the knife incorrectly - hand will be injured or will get blisters

DO NOT feel blade of knife for sharp edge STOP 5:33 minutes

Start 6:58 minutes

Onions - Onions make us cry.  The longer an onion sits, the stronger  the acid becomes.  Winter and early spring onions are older

Cut off _______ end - Trim _________ end.  Do NOT cut off ________ end.  Tunnel hold - did you see it?

Place ____________ on top of the onion.
