Question #31886

the resultant of two vector will be maximum if the are?

Expert's answer

The resultant of two vector will be maximum if they are?

For example we have 2 vectors a\vec{a} and b\vec{b} and their resultant equals c\vec{c}. Magnitude of c equals:

c=a2+b2+2abcosαc = \sqrt{a^2 + b^2 + 2ab \cos \alpha}

α\alpha – angle between a\vec{a} and b\vec{b}.

c is maximum value if cosα=1α=0\cos \alpha = 1 \Rightarrow \alpha = 0;

So, when they have the same direction they give maximum resultant.

Answer: The resultant of two vector will be maximum if they have the same direction.
