In how many ways can we paint the 4 walls of a room if we have 6 colors? If it 4 power 6 then why??

Assume that one wall can have one paint. That way, you have 6 choices to paint the first wall, multiplied by 6 choices for the second wall, multiplied by 6 choices for the third wall, and multiplied by 6 choices for the fourth wall, i.e.

$$6\times6\times6\times6=6^4=1296$$
