Answer on Question #59363 – Math – Statistics and Probability

Question

Suppose a box contains 4 red and 3 black balls. Compute the probability that the second ball drawn is red if the first ball drawn was black.

Solution

After drawing the first black ball we have 4 red and 2 black balls in a box. Then the required probability is equal to number of the red ballsnumber of all the balls=44+2=46=23\frac{\text{number of the red balls}}{\text{number of all the balls}} = \frac{4}{4 + 2} = \frac{4}{6} = \frac{2}{3}.

Answer: 23\frac{2}{3}.
