How does a z Score differ from a t score?

Solution:

z-score and a t-score are both used in hypothesis testing. We use a t-score if sample satisfies the following requirements:

- the sample size is below 30;

- the population standard deviation is unknown (estimated from your sample data)

In other words, you we must know the standard deviation of the population and the sample size must be above 30 in order to be able to use the z-score. Otherwise, we use the t-score. When the sample size increases, the t-score and z-score are very close.
