A Statistics lecturer is interested to analyze the daily time spent on studying by the students in his class. He has surveyed 20 students and recorded down the time (minutes) and gender (M= male, F = female) as below.
Time: 20-50-60-55-55-45-45-48-25-38
Gender: M-F-M-F-M -F-F-M-M-M
Time: 30 25 27 20 35 15 15 60 36 70
Gender: F-M-F-F-F-M-F-F-F-M
i.Calculate the probability that a randomly selected student spends more than 20 minutes on studying.
ii.Calculate the probability that the mean daily time spent on studying for four randomly selected students is more than 40 minutes.
iii.It is found that 10% of the students spend less than A minutes studying daily. Find the value of A.
iv.State the assumption(s)made in order to carry out the calculations in (i) to (iii).
v.The proportion of male students taking Statistics in the class used to be 35%. The lecturer claims that the proportion of male students has increased. Using the critical value method, can we accept the claim at1% level of significance?
