1.Describe three measures of central tendency
2.Discuss the purpose of using the measures of central tendency
3.Define the mean, median, and mode.
4.Identify the distinguishing characteristics of the mean, median, mode.
5.Discuss the limitation of the mean, median, and mode
1. The three measures of central tendency are the mean, median and mode. The mean is the average value whereas the median is the middle value and the mode is the most appearing number.
2.The measures of central tendency indicates where most data values in a distribution fall hence uses a single value to determine the distribution of the entire population of data.
3. Mean is the sum of total data values divided by the number of data points.
Median is the middle most value obtained by ordering the data value in ascending order and picking the middle value.
Mode is the value that appears most frequently.
4. The most distinguishing characteristic of the mean is that it takes into consideration the weights of the scores.
The median requires that data is arranged in ascending order.
The mode puts into consideration the frequency of data values and takes the one with the highest value.
5. The limitation of the mean is that it does not put into consideration outliers.
The median requires an ordered list which is difficult to obtain for a larger dataset.
The mode may sometimes appear more than one value. This leads to milti-modality which is difficult to interpret and report
