Let the length of a shorter piece be $2x$ m. Then the length of other piece will be $3x$ m.

I have a 7 meter board

$$2x+3x=7$$

$$5x=7$$

$$x=\dfrac{7}{5}=1.4$$

$$2(1.4)=2.8$$

$$3(1.4)=4.2$$

A shorter piece will be $2.8$ m long and the other piece will be $4.2$ m long.
