Answer on Question #43983, Math, Geometry

Find the area of the thin sheeting required for making an open cistern (i.e. without a lid), 5 m long, 3 m wide, 4 m deep.

Solution:

Cistern is open so only base add to total area

Calculate square of base: 53=15m25 \cdot 3 = 15m^2

Then each size of base multiply on height (5+5+3+3)4=64m2(5 + 5 + 3 + 3) \cdot 4 = 64m^2

The area for the open cistern is base+square of each size =15+64=79m2= 15 + 64 = 79m^2

Total area =79m2= 79m^2
