Let AD=xAD = x , then DC=14xDC = 14 - x , so:


x14x=614\frac {x}{1 4 - x} = \frac {6}{1 4}


Multiplying both sides on 7(14x)7(14 - x) :


7x=3(14x)7 x = 3 (1 4 - x)


Expanding:
