Question #32716

Boonie wants to paint a circle on a wall in her bedroom. The height of the wall is 8 feet, from floor to ceiling. She wants the circle to be 1 foot away away from the floor and 1 foot away from the ceiling. What is the radius of the circle she will paint? What is the area of the circle? What is the circumference of the circle ?

Expert's answer

Solution.

Height =8= 8 feet

Take away 1 foot from top is 7 feet then another foot from bottom is 6 feet.

So the diameter =6= 6 feet, then the radius R=62=3R = \frac{6}{2} = 3 feet.

The area of the circle:

S=πR2=32π=9π(f e e t)S = \pi R ^ {2} = 3 ^ {2} \pi = 9 \pi (\text {f e e t})

The circumference of the circle:

L=2πR=6π(f e e t)L = 2 \pi R = 6 \pi (\text {f e e t})

Answer: R=3R = 3 feet; S=9πS = 9\pi feet; L=6πL = 6\pi feet.
