Critically review the progression from grade 4 to grade 6 for each of the seven topic under the content measurements. Write a short paragraph for the topic in which you discuss and motivate wether the progression provide a fair amount of cognitive and conceptual challenge to the relevant grade levels
Convert Metric Units is the Topic in measurement that clearly shows progression offers cognitive and conceptual challenges that are fair. For example, in grade 4, a student is supposed to know how to convert mm to cm, cm to m, m to km, and the reverse km to m, m to cm, cm to mm. Students in grade four are supposed to know the pattern that is followed for the successive conversion. As the student progresses to higher grades, Convert Metric Units is now expected to apply the learned concepts back in grade 4 to solve complicated problems. For example, for this conversion mm2 to cm2, cm2 to m2 and m2 to cm2, and cm2 to mm2. To successfully solve this (convert metric units), a student will be required to have the knowledge from grade 4 on Convert Metric Units; otherwise, it would be hard for the student to learn the pattern that can be used for the conversion for complicated problems. Therefore, the progression offers a cognitive and conceptual challenge that is fair on different grade levels.
