By the Pythagorean theorem we have

a2+b2=c2a^2+b^2=c^2 (1)

in the right triangle ABCABC (see the picture below). Here is aa and bb are legs and cc is the hypotenuse. From (1) it follows that

c2=32+42=25,c^2=3^2+4^2=25,

c=5.c=5.
